Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California in 2011-2017 and she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
